The Algona High School Class of 1970 51st Reunion

Thanks to everyone who responded to vote for the fate of our next reunion. It was great to see such large interest with 48 votes (out of 72 emails that were sent), and the outcome was nearly unanimous to postpone the reunion to next summer. So Summer 2021 it is! There were quite a few suggestions for Founders’ Day weekend--usually the 2nd weekend of July--so that will be confirmed when specific dates are obtained from the city.

Everything was pretty much in place for the reunion this summer, and the schedule will be the same for next summer. Don’t forget to cancel hotel reservations if you had them for this year.

We will have the distinction of the only AHS class to have a 51st Class Reunion! This will enable everyone to be much more relaxed after the coronavirus uncertainties of this year, and will also give everyone plenty of time to prepare for a good party!

Tentative 2021 Schedule

Friday night
Get-together at Steve Mueller’s house, 401 Brookridge Dr, 5—8 pm. This will include drinks and a casual dinner.

Tours of the schools and performing arts center for our class are as follows:

1:00 O.B. Laing School (our high school) and the Annex that have been converted to apartments
2:00 Performing Arts Center (next to the current high school)
2:30 Current High School and Middle School

People are responsible for their own transportation.

Evening: Throwback VFW dance (and dinner)

5:00 Social hour before dinner at the VFW Hall downtown.
6:00 Dinner
8:00 Music and dance following dinner will be provided by classmate Jack Dimond’s band, The Ned Freely Fun Band. They play a good variety of music of our time--not too loud and crazy, but they can still boogie. There will also be areas for people to chat and catch up while the band is playing.

We got a great idea from the Class of 68—an AHS alumni T-shirt or sweatshirt that can be ordered online. Click here if you're interested in getting one.

If anyone has pictures or momentos from our glory days that they would like to share, please scan (or take a picture) of them and email them to, and he can put them on the website. You can also send them to Mike Devine at, for a display at the reunion.

Does anyone know if the class prophecy film still exists, and who might have it? If so, does anyone know if it could be converted to a DVD, assuming that there is no longer the ability to use a projector.
