Algona High School Class of 1970

The AHS Class of 1970 50th Reunion will be held on Founder's Day Weekend, July 10 and 11, 2020.

Information and updates will be posted on this website,, so please check it regularly since an email may not be sent for every update.

Regarding the coronavirus and the class reunion

In addition to health concerns, another pressing issue is probably for people who need to travel, particularly if it involves flight arrangements.

Mike Devine, Deb Johnson Miller, and I have talked, and our thought now is to wait until the end of April to see where things stand. Hopefully at that time we’ll have a clearer picture of the status of the coronavirus and whether we would need to postpone the reunion.

In the meantime, if anyone has any questions or thoughts, please don’t hesitate to contact Julie Heckmann, or Mike Devine,

Julie Chrischilles Heckmann

After getting an initial attendance response for Saturday night, we have arrived at a fee of $35/person, $70/couple. (This includes dinner, entertainment, mailing costs, and incidentals.)

Please send an RSVP and check to Julie Heckmann, 1910 Carter Rd, Dubuque, IA 52001 by June 15.
Your check can be made to: AHS Class of 1970 Reunion. Cancellations and refunds can be done until June 30.

Updated Schedule

Friday night
Get-together at Steve Mueller’s house, 401 Brookridge Dr, 5—8 pm. This will include drinks and a casual dinner. Please email your RSVP to by June 30, and you can pay $20 at Steve’s that night.

Morning: Wayne Pedersen has volunteered to arrange a yoga session for Saturday morning. If you are interested, please email him at

Tours of the schools and performing arts center for our class (and general public) are as follows:

1:00 O.B. Laing School (our high school) and the Annex that have been converted to apartments
2:00 Performing Arts Center (next to the current high school)
2:30 Current High School and Middle School

People are responsible for their own transportation. If you are unable to attend the afternoon times with our class, tours will also be done at 10:00, 11:00, and 11:30 am.

Evening: Throwback VFW dance (and dinner)

5:00 Social hour before dinner at the VFW Hall downtown.
6:00 Dinner
8:00 Music and dance following dinner will be provided by classmate Jack Dimond’s band, The Ned Feely Fun Band. They play a good variety of music of our time--not too loud and crazy, but they can still boogie. There will also be areas for people to chat and catch up while the band is playing.

We got a great idea from the Class of 68—an AHS alumni T-shirt or sweatshirt that can be ordered online. Click here if you're interested in getting one.

If anyone has pictures or momentos from our glory days that they would like to share, please scan (or take a picture) of them and email them to, and he can put them on the website. You can also send them to Mike Devine at, for a display at the reunion.

Does anyone know if the class prophecy film still exists, and who might have it? If so, does anyone know if it could be converted to a DVD, assuming that there is no longer the ability to use a projector.
